Over the last couple of years, we have had longstanding members of the CILIP Ireland Committee step away from the committee in order to pursue other professional activities. With this in mind, we now have a number of openings on the Committee for any CILIP Ireland member who would like to get involved.

As well as encouraging CILIP Ireland members to join the committee as ordinary members, we currently have openings for

  • North / South Liaison Officer

  • Social Media Officer

  • New Professional and Student Officer

There are a number of reasons why you might like to join the committee. As well as connecting with other library, information and knowledge management workers in Northern Ireland and hearing what is happening in other sectors, it is also a good opportunity to become involved in committee work, which in turns opens up avenues to gain lots of new skills that might not be readily available to you within your workspace.

The vacant roles of 'North / South Liaison Officer', 'Social Media Officer' and 'New Professionals and Student Officer' are key roles within the committee.

The North / South Liaison Officer helps to foster our working relationship with the Library Association of Ireland. We work with the LAI on a number of initiatives include the mentoring scheme, the Staff Champion Award, Library Ireland Week and the Joint CILIP Ireland & LAI Annual Conference. As North / South Liaison Officer, you will have the opportunity to shape these events, feed into future developments , connect with your colleagues across the island of Ireland, and act as the conduit for information and knowledge back to the CILIP Ireland Committee. Typically the North / South Liaison Officer also sits on the editorial board of An Leabharlann. At the moment, the meetings with the LAI happen virtually and it is anticipated that this will continue.

The CILIP Ireland Social Media Officer is another key role on the committee. As well as feeding into the work of the committee, this role is responsible for getting information out to our members and the wider library, information and knowledge management community as well as monitoring the CILIP Ireland social media accounts. This will include information about our events, committee meetings and supported events via our platforms; twitter and facebook. This role also leads on our twitter chats and for populating our CILIP Ireland blog. While CILIP Ireland events are being held, e.g. conference and open day, this role will cover the event(s) across our platforms.

The CILIP Ireland New Professional and Student Officer is all about connecting with LIS students, and those just starting out on their LIS and Knowledge Management career. Ideas coming from previous New Professional and Student Officers included twitter chats, mentoring scheme and the New Voices section on the CILIP Ireland & LAI Joint Annual Conference. The CILIP Ireland committee are continuing to take these ideas forward and the new post-holder would be key to helping the Committee.

If you are interested in any of the posts or indeed joining the Committee as an ordinary members, please contact Gerardine Blee by emailing gerardine.blee@cilip.org.uk . Please note we particularly welcome applications from the BAME community and from other under-represented on our committee.
